No Just Transition Without Us: Southeast Asia's climate leaders gather in Singapore for first-ever Climate Reality Leadership Corps Training

Published Jul 27, 2026 10:05 am
The Climate Reality Project, a nonprofit climate organization founded by former US Vice President Al Gore, will host an in-person Climate Reality Leadership Corps Training in Singapore on September 8-9, 2026.
The training is an opportunity for frontline communities, climate advocates, experts, governments, financial institutions, private sector, and changemakers from the Philippines and across Southeast Asia to converge in Singapore and stand shoulder to shoulder to turn lived realities into leadership.
The two-day immersive program is designed not simply to teach about the climate crisis, but to translate the lived experiences of Southeast Asia’s most affected communities into a collective force – a force geared towards justice-driven action, demanding energy pathways and climate financing that put people and their rights at the center.
“The global conversation is finally catching up to what our communities have always known: Southeast Asia is already leading on climate solutions,” said Aimee Oliveros, Climate Reality Philippines Branch Manager. “This training is where we turn that leadership into a collective force for justice. Across the Philippines and our neighboring countries, we are advancing campaigns, shaping policy, and building solutions grounded in the principle that no transition is possible without us. Singapore is where we further sharpen the tools we have, connect across borders, and demand the resources our communities deserve.”
The training arrives as the numbers underscore the urgency. Southeast Asia is home to 9 percent of the world’s population yet receives only about 3 percent of global energy investment. Coal still powers 47 percent of the region’s electricity. Recent oil price shocks have sent low-income households reeling from their impacts. While solar and wind are growing at around 35 percent annually, this expansion must not replicate the extractive patterns of the past – land grabbing, displacement, and decisions made without communities are injustices the region cannot afford to repeat.
Participants will learn directly from former US Vice President Al Gore as he delivers his presentation on the latest climate science, impacts, and emerging solutions, with data and case studies drawn specifically from Southeast Asia. They will also gain hands-on exposure to Climate TRACE, a revolutionary global emissions tracking tool that provides hard, localized data to drive accountability and action. The training will also explore cross-border collaboration opportunities that could help reshape the region's clean energy future, establish real energy security, and create a hub of green innovation and finance.
By attending the training, participants will join the Climate Reality Leadership Corps – an expansive community of Leaders personally trained by Vice President Gore – and become part of a global network of 4.5 million world changers from 196 countries and territories, all working to build public understanding of the climate crisis, reduce emissions, finance a just transition, and promote genuine climate leadership.
As Southeast Asia stands at the crossroads of a defining energy transition, the Climate Reality Singapore training offers more than knowledge. It is an invitation to join a movement where the people most affected by the climate crisis are the ones shaping its solutions – working collaboratively, across borders, with the tools, networks, and collective power to demand a just, livable future for all.
