Duterte dismisses resignation speculation amid impeachment trial, says Marcos should remove her if he wants her out

Vice President Sara Duterte has firmly dismissed rumors that she would resign from office, declaring that such a move would be a betrayal of the 32.2 million Filipinos who voted for her in the 2022 elections.
In a Facebook post by Padayon and Updates dated July 26, Duterte stressed that stepping down from her post is not an option despite the ongoing impeachment trial against her.
“Never gonna happen. Hindi ako magre-resign dahil iyon ay parang betrayal sa 32.2 million na mga kababayan bumoto sa akin (I will not resign because that would be like betraying the 32.2 million fellow Filipinos who voted for me),” Duterte said.
The vice president also directly addressed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., saying that if he wanted her out of office, he should remove her himself.
“Kung gusto ni BBM, tanggalin niya ako. Gawin niya ang lahat para tanggalin niya ako (If BBM wants me out, let him remove me. Let him do everything he can to remove me),” she added.
Speculation about Duterte's possible resignation surfaced as she faces an impeachment trial over allegations involving the alleged misuse of confidential funds, unexplained wealth, and grave threats.
Her defense team has previously denied reports that she was considering stepping down, saying that resignation has never been discussed between Duterte and her lawyers.
The Senate impeachment court recently concluded hearing the House prosecution's presentation of evidence on Article IV of the Articles of Impeachment filed against the vice president.
The trial is expected to proceed to the succeeding stages in accordance with the court's schedule.
Duterte has repeatedly maintained that she intends to face the impeachment proceedings rather than resign from office.
Her latest remarks underscore her position that she will continue serving her term despite the ongoing legal and political challenges.
