Katigbawan Festival tops Sandugo sa Bohol

CEBU CITY – The Katigbawan Festival of the municipality of Catigbian dominated the Sandugo sa Bohol 2026 after winning the cultural show’s major awards on Sunday, July 26.
Winning a total of P1.4 million in cash prizes, the Catigbian contingent was crowned champion in Ritual Showdown and Street Dancing Competition.
It also bagged two of the three special awards (Best in Street Dancing and Best in Production Design) after its presentation celebrating the town’s rich agricultural heritage, ecotourism, and local culture earned the nod of judges.
Alburquerque’s Asin Tibuok Festival was first runner-up while Loay’s Samba Festival emerged as second runner-up.
The Banay sa Kulturang Dimiaonon of Dimiao was third runner-up while Antequera’s Basket Festival placed fourth runner-up.
Alburquerque received P800,000 in cash prizes and an additional P100,000 for winning the Best in Musicality Award. Loay, Dimiao, and Antequera bagged P700,000, P600,000, and P500,000, respectively.
The three other contingents Ubay, Valencia, Talibon, and Maribojoc each got P300,000 in consolation prizes.
The nine participating contingents will also receive development projects from the Bohol provincial government.
Leading the annual celebration was Gov. Aris Aumentado.
Prior to the cultural competition, Aumentado led the signing of a sisterhood agreement with San Juan City represented by Mayor Francis Zamora.
Aumentado thanked participating contingents for highlighting Sandugo Festival as more than just a celebration but a promotion of traditions, creativity, and cultural pride of communities in the province.
“Through their performances, we celebrate not only the richness of our heritage but also the unity that binds us as one Boholano people. As a UNESCO Global Geopark and a regenerative island, Bohol continues to honor its deep connection with nature, culture, and community,” the governor said.
Aumentado said only nine of Bohol’s 48 local government units (LGUs) participated in this year’s Sandugo as part of a scaled-down celebration.
“I have issued an executive order calling for austerity measures due to the high cost of fuel. So, we only have nine contingents because of the measures we are taking amid the global economic crisis,” the governor said.
