Isla Group opens new LPG terminal in Iloilo to secure Visayas energy supply

Isla Group inaugurated its newest liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) terminal in Iloilo province, expanding its energy infrastructure and storage capacity in the Visayas-Panay region to support growing demand.
In a statement on Monday, July 27, Isla Group said the new facility in Barangay Bigke, Leganes, directly replaces the company’s former operation in Lapuz.
Equipped with a deep-water jetty capable of docking inter-island coaster vessels and a submarine pipeline connecting marine tankers directly to onshore storage tanks, the terminal strengthens supply logistics across Panay Island and the broader Southern Islands corridor.
The terminal’s initial onshore storage capacity is built to supply approximately 125,000 households, with scope for future expansion. The site primarily serves Isla’s flagship Solane brand while maintaining technical flexibility to handle additional brands and product lines, the company said in a statement.
The investment follows the recent commissioning of Isla Group’s six-hectare import terminal in Batangas, which supplies more than two million households nationwide.
Beyond scaling up household access, the coastal facility’s deep-water jetty allows it to serve as a key business continuity hub for the Visayas region, helping mitigate broader supply chain disruptions and maintain uninterrupted LPG availability.
Operations at the terminal feature an automated carousel filling system with high-capacity pumps for cylinder distribution, along with a loading gantry and weighbridge to handle bulk supply operations.
Integrated logistical efficiencies are expected to help lower freight costs across the Visayas-Mindanao corridor, directly reducing expenses for end-consumers.
Safety infrastructure at the terminal includes a long-range CCTV surveillance network linked to a facility-wide audio warning system, an emergency shutdown system, and high-capacity firefighting equipment.
Isla Group is a joint venture between Philippine conglomerate Citadel Group and Japan’s Itochu Corporation.
Alongside bolstering energy reliability, the company said the Leganes project will support local economic activity by generating jobs and providing technical skills development within the host community. (Gabriell Christel Galang)
