ZAMBOANGA CITY – African Swine Fever has infected 284 hogs in Lamitan City, Basilan.
The Lamitan City Veterinary Office said they are looking at this city as the possible source of the disease following an infection of hogs in Barangay Calugusan, the first barangay where ASF was detected.
Hogs from the area were sourced from Zamboanga City where ASF cases were recently confirmed.
Zamboanga City has strengthened border control to contain the spread of ASF.
The Lamitan City Veterinary Office has intensified surveillance and monitoring activities to control the spread of the disease.
Authorities appealed to Lamitan residents to report any suspected cases to the City Veterinary Office.
Pigs from 113 hog raisers in Lamitan were said to be affected.
