Abandoned van yields P14-M smuggled cigarettes

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Smuggled cigarettes were recovered in an abandoned van in Barangay Campo Islam here over the weekend.
Police said the contraband was left behind by men who sensed their presence while transporting the illicit cargo.
Discovered were 651 master cases and 715 reams of imported cigarettes valued at approximately P14 million.
These were inventoried and turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition.
Units involved in the operation were the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-9, Zamboanga City Police Station 11, and the Bureau of Customs.
