Vice Ganda apologizes after 'It's Showtime' skit draws criticism

Vice Ganda apologized after facing criticism over remarks that some viewers described as "racist" during a segment on "It's Showtime."

The controversy stemmed from a recent "Memerimar" skit featured in the show's "Laro Laro Pick" segment, which included Johaira, a member of Baby Dolls.

During the skit, Vice spat water onto Johaira's face before saying, "Anong nangyari sa 'yo? Bakit nagputik ka?"

The remark quickly drew criticism from netizens, with some arguing that it targeted Johaira's complexion.

Others, however, defended the comedian, saying the remark was intended as part of the show's comedic banter.

Before the episode ended on Friday, Vice addressed the backlash, saying the show had heard the concerns of viewers who found some of the jokes and skits offensive or insensitive.

"Nakarating po sa aming kaalaman na may mga madlang people na hindi nagustuhan o na-offend sa ilan sa aming jokes o biruan dito sa 'It's Showtime,' pati na rin sa mga ginagawa namin sa 'Memerimar,' na they found the jokes offensive or insensitive," Vice said.

Vice said the show's goal has always been to entertain viewers, not offend them, and apologized to those who were hurt by the remarks.

"Gusto lang namin ipaalam po sa inyo na the last thing we want is to displease you o hindi mapasaya ang aming madlang people. Kaya naman, ina-acknowledge po namin ang inyong sentimyento at humihingi po kami ng paumanhin sa inyo," Vice added.

The television host also assured viewers that the incident serves as a reminder for the show's hosts and staff to be more mindful moving forward.

"We will try to do better. Maraming maraming salamat po," Vice concluded.
