This, in a nutshell, is what Bagong Henerasyon (BH) Party-list wants to hear from President Marcos's penultimate State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 27.

The party-list's nominee, Assistant Minority Leader Robert Nazal, says Marcos's fifth SONA must reflect the concerns of ordinary Filipinos and reforms that will ensure no one is left behind.

Emphasizing unity as a key to the nation’s progress, Nazal said the President is in a unique position to foster political stability, strengthen investor confidence, spur economic growth, all of which will have an impact on the lives of every Filipino.

“Filipinos are not looking for a longer speech, they are looking for results. Less politics, more governance. Less promises, more action. Less rhetoric, more measurable results,” he underscored.

Nazal highlighted key legislative and policy priorities he expects to hear from the President, all of which are centered on uplifting the lives of the people and improving the standing of the country in the near and long-term.

For the growing middle class and all salaried employees, Nazal said they deserve better public services and fair value for the taxes they religiously pay to the State.

Nazal said government should do more to attract investments that will lead to better opportunities and higher paying jobs for the people.

In line with attracting investments and reducing the burden on ordinary Filipinos, Nazal said reforms in the power industry must be prioritized considering the Philippines is among the countries with the highest electricity rates.

Nazal pushed for support for micro, small and medium enterprises through low or zero interest financing and youth empowerment through education and skills enhancement will help boost economic growth as they will be the key drivers.

Good governance based on the policy of “Gobyernong Walang Padrino,” Nazal said will improve overall trust of the people in government.

Nazal said stronger regulations for online gambling platforms and cracking down on illegal gambling is essential to protecting families and the youth.

Fiscal discipline, Nazal said is something that everyone wants to hear from the President, particularly how he intends to reduce government debt and streamline public spending.

“We want to hear a clear, credible and achievable economic roadmap for the remaining years of the Marcos administration,” Nazal said.

On the part of BH Party-list Chairperson and Spokesperson Bernadette Herrera, she is expecting to hear more about social welfare reforms and forward-thinking policies to prepare the country for the future.

Herrera said the Filipino people want to hear about plans to lower the cost of living, particularly concrete ways to address the rising prices of food, electricity, water and fuel.

Healthcare should also be a priority, the ex-Deputy Speaker said, through the full implementation of existing healthcare laws, including zero-balance billing as provided by law and mandatory charity services.

She said she wants to hear stronger support for her advocacies on the areas of solo parents and persons with disabilities.

What Herrera said she does not want to hear are any talk on imposing new taxes and instead the President should work on improving revenue collections.

“We want a government that promotes transparency, accountability, and the prudent use of taxpayers’ money by harnessing AI and blockchain technology to strengthen governance and eliminate opportunities for corruption,” Herrera said.

“That is the leadership—and the future—that every Filipino deserves,” she added.
