1,500 Central Luzon cops augment SONA security

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – The Police Regional Office-Central Luzon (PRO-3) will deploy 1,500 police personnel to Metro Manila to augment security operations for the fifth State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand R. Marco Jr. on Monday.

Police reinforcements from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-3 and units from Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, and Tarlac will be deployed Sunday evening to the National Capital Region to support the Philippine National Police's overall security plan.

PRO-3 also placed 600 backup officers from regional headquarters and provincial offices on standby for immediate deployment if needed.

Despite the deployment, PRO-3 assured the public that police operations across Central Luzon will be uninterrupted to maintain peace and order.

"Our personnel have been reminded to exercise maximum tolerance, respect the constitutional and human rights of individuals participating in lawful assemblies, and perform their duties with professionalism, discipline and restraint," PRO-3 Director Police Brig. Gen. Jess Mendez said.

The PNP placed all units nationwide on full alert status from 5 p.m. on July 24 until midnight on July 27 to ensure maximum security for Marcos' penultimate SONA. (PNA)
