CEBU CITY – What was supposed to be a mediation turned into a heated confrontation when a barangay captain was assaulted inside a barangay hall in Sibonga town, southern Cebu.
The incident led to the arrest of a 25-year-old female Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) councilor, who was accused of punching a 52-year-old barangay captain on Thursday afternoon, July 23.
Police said the councilor's mother and her brother-in-law were summoned by barangay officials to settle a domestic conflict.
During the mediation, the brother-in-law owned up to his mistake but the mother of the councilor insisted that he should pack up and leave the house. The brother-in-law's wife is the sister of the councilor.
The councilor allegedly intervened and confronted her brother-in-law, causing a commotion inside the barangay hall. The female barangay captain asked the councilor to leave the barangay hall to ease the tension.
Instead of calming down, the councilor got irked and punched the barangay captain in the face. Police responded and arrested the councilor.
Police said the barangay captain was determined to file charges against the SK councilor.
