Gica vows to campaign for responsible driving

CEBU CITY – The controversial mayor of Dumanjug, Cebu vowed to help push responsible driving after he figured in a road collision where he was caught counterflowing and driving a motorcycle without a license plate.
Mayor Efren Gutrano “Gungun” Gica on Friday, July 24, appeared at the office of the Highway Patrol Group-Central Visayas (HPG-7).
Gica surrendered his “Tiger” pin given to riders who completed the HPG executive riders training course.
He went viral on social media after a video circulated online showing a Ducati motorcycle he was driving ramming into a van on a highway in Barangay Pakigne, Minglanilla, Cebu last Sunday, July 19.
Gica drew heavy backlash from netizens after he was seen counterflowing and driving a motorcycle with no license plate.
“The mistake I did when I counterflow was my own doing. The organization (Tigers) has nothing to do with it,” he told reporters in Cebuano.
Gica was accompanied by fellow Tigers when he met HPG-7 chief Poice Col. Richard Gumboc.
Gumaboc turned down Gica’s decision to quit as a member of the Tigers. Gica thanked Gumaboc for giving him a second chance.
“I will make it an advocacy to organize and to really help my fellow riders not just members of Tigers but the riding community to help them become safe road riders,” said Gica.
From the HPG-7, Gica planned to proceed to the Land Transportation Office-Central Visayas (LTO-7) office.
The LTO-7 issued a show-case order to Gica for the incident. The agency also placed Gica’s driver’s license under a 90-day preventive suspension.
