Audiences in the Philippines and around the world will soon have access to one of the country’s most discussed stories as Rein Entertainment and KC Global Media Entertainment bring "Drug War: A Conspiracy of Silence" to YouTube beginning July 30.

The six-part limited series will be available worldwide through Rein Entertainment’s YouTube channel for a limited time, opening the production to a wider audience beyond traditional distribution platforms. New episodes will be released weekly throughout its streaming run.

The move marks Rein Entertainment’s latest effort to expand the reach of Filipino storytelling by using digital platforms to connect local productions with viewers across borders, including the global Filipino community and international audiences.

Launched at the Asia TV Forum and Market in Singapore, "Drug War: A Conspiracy of Silence" revisits a defining chapter in recent Philippine history, focusing on the government’s anti-drug campaign during the Duterte administration from 2016 to 2017.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Shugo Praico, the series follows a priest and a guilt-ridden police officer whose lives become intertwined as they investigate the death of a young victim of the drug war. Inspired by true events, the drama explores questions of truth, accountability, and the human consequences of a deeply divisive period.

The series features an award-winning ensemble cast led by Ian Veneracion, Jane Oineza, Harvey Bautista, and John Arcilla. Veneracion was recognized as Best Actor at the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival, while Arcilla received the Best Actor award at the 2022 Venice Film Festival.

For Praico, the series is an opportunity to examine history through a human perspective rather than simply revisit political events.

“The Philippines’ war on drugs campaign is one of the defining chapters of our recent history,” Praico said. “As a storyteller, I believe our responsibility is not simply to revisit history, but to confront it by asking how we got here. And, more importantly, where we are headed.”

The decision to release the series on YouTube reflects changing audience habits and the growing role of digital platforms in bringing Filipino content to wider audiences.

“Choosing YouTube as the global home for ‘Drug War: A Conspiracy of Silence’ was a deliberate creative and strategic decision rooted in the evolving technological landscape and shifting audience viewing behaviors,” said Arleen Cuevas, Rein Entertainment’s Producer for International Productions.

“By bypassing traditional gatekeepers and eliminating restrictive subscription paywalls, Rein Entertainment sought to explore and democratize access to premium content, allowing us to reach audiences directly and remove barriers to discovery,” she added.

The company views YouTube not only as a streaming platform but as a global distribution channel that allows Filipino stories to reach viewers regardless of location. 

“This digital-first approach recognizes YouTube as a highly viable and powerful distribution engine capable of expanding the horizons of Filipino storytelling by delivering the series at no cost to viewers in the Philippines, the global diaspora, and international audiences alike,” Cuevas said.

Praico said the series aims to move beyond political divisions and focus on the people affected by the events it portrays.

“At its heart, ‘Drug War: A Conspiracy of Silence’ is not simply about politics or crime. It is about the stories of people. Families torn apart, communities transformed, lives forever changed, institutions tested, and the silence that allows tragedy to endure,” he said.

The director added that the series does not aim to provide simple answers but encourages viewers to examine different perspectives and reflect on the complexities of history.
