CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – Authorities have recovered the body of one of two children swept away during a flash flood on Sunday, July 19, in Barangay Mapagong here.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Division-Safety and Resilience Unit said that the body of the victim, a seven-year-old boy, was recovered on Thursday afternoon, July 23, during the fifth day of search operations on the San Cristobal River.
The CDRRMD-SRU was assisted by the quick response teams of Barangay Banlic, Mapagong, San Cristobal, and Palingon and the Philippine Coast Guard-Calamba.
Search continues for the boy’s nine-year-old sister.
Meanwhile, authorities warned residents of flash floods from the San Juan and San Cristobal Rivers here due to heavy rains from tropical cyclone Kiyapo enhanced by the southwest monsoon.
The CDRRMD-SRU urged residents to continue monitoring official advisories and be ready to evacuate immediately if necessary.
