Five alleged shoplifters were arrested in separate incidents after stealing over P23,000 worth of merchandise from a mall in Barangay Sto. Cristo, Quezon City, on July 17 and 18.
The suspects were identified only by their aliases “Ger,” 21; “Nat,” 44; “Iv,” 39; “Chris,” 18; and “Che.”
Police said the suspects separately posed as ordinary customers before allegedly concealing assorted merchandise inside bags or their personal belongings and attempting to leave without paying.
Alert security personnel intercepted the suspects near the store exits after allegedly observing their actions and recovered personal care products, grocery items, clothing, undergarments, umbrellas, accessories, food products, and other merchandise worth more than P23,000.
“Ger,” a resident of Caloocan City, was arrested at around 12:30 p.m. on July 17, while “Nat” and “Iv,” both residents of Barangay Toclong, Kawit, Cavite, were arrested at around 5 p.m. on July 18.
“Chris,” a resident of Barangay Tandang Sora, Quezon City, was arrested at around 4:45 p.m. on July 18, while “Che,” a resident of Caloocan City, was arrested at around 6:30 p.m. the same day.
Meanwhile, “Che” allegedly gave a fictitious name when initially questioned by authorities.
Further verification showed that she had a previous theft record in February 2026 and an existing arrest warrant issued in April 2026.
The five suspects face theft charges under Article 308 of the Revised Penal Code before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office, while "Che" also faces an additional charge of using a fictitious name under Article 178.
