"Siguro, that's something that's not for us in this lifetime."

For Ice Seguerra, that one sentence sums up years of trying to make a shared dream happen.

Speaking on "i-Listen with Kara David," Ice revealed that he and wife Liza Diño have come to terms with the possibility that they may never have a biological child together.

"I'm 43, she's 45. I don't think it's wise anymore," he said. "We already have one. We have Amara, who's already 18. So maybe that's something that's not for us in this lifetime."

It wasn't an easy conclusion to reach.

Ice said he and Liza first talked about having a baby through IVF in 2013. They planned to do it, but kept putting it off because they felt they still had time.

"Then in 2016, we both entered government," he said, explaining how work also became a factor in the delays.

When they eventually started the process, Ice was already 35. Doctors were only able to retrieve three eggs, something he later learned was linked to the decline in fertility that comes with age.

He also said some doctors were hesitant to proceed because of ethical concerns surrounding assisted reproduction in the Philippines. On top of that, IVF required a level of scheduling that their jobs at the time simply couldn't accommodate.

"It wasn't something you could just do overnight. It kept getting postponed."

Years later, those postponements eventually became acceptance.

Ice clarified that he and Liza are not without a family. They have been raising Amara, Liza's daughter from a previous marriage, since she was three years old.

Ice also shared one of the most meaningful moments in his relationship with Amara.

He said he never asked her to call him "Dad," knowing that her biological father remained active in her life.

"I told myself I would never impose. Whenever she felt like calling me Dad, I'd welcome it."

Then one day, while they were in the car, Amara surprised him.

"'Baba, can I just call you Dad?'"

"I said, 'Yeah, of course.' Inside, I was so happy," Ice recalled.

Life doesn't always go according to plan. Sometimes, the family you imagined isn't the family you end up with.
