Don't abandon critical thinking in age of AI--Speaker Dy

Not everything viral is true; not all artificial intelligence (AI) is intelligent.
With these words of wisdom, House Speaker Isabela 6th district Rep. Faustino “Bojie” Dy III urged graduates of Isabela State University (ISU) to further develop critical thinking and use it to discern truth from misinformation.
“Huwag ninyo sanang kalilimutan ang isang kakayahang hindi kailanman mapapalitan ng anumang teknolohiya—ang mag-isip nang tama. Napakaraming impormasyon. Napakaraming content. Subalit hindi lahat ng nakikita sa mga screen ay katotohanan. Hindi lahat ng viral ay totoo. At hindi lahat ng artificial intelligence ay intelligent,” Speaker Dy said in his commencement message, which was delivered on his behalf by Isabela Vice Governor Francis Faustino “Kiko” Dy.
(Do not ever forget a capability that no technology can replace—the ability to think correctly. There is so much information. So much content. Yet not everything seen on screens is truth. Not everything viral is real. And not all artificial intelligence is intelligent.)
In his address to the ISU Batch 2026 graduates, the Speaker says the rapid advances in AI make lifelong learning more important than ever.
But he underscored that wisdom, sound judgment, and integrity remain qualities that cannot be replicated by technology.
“Learning should no longer be a stage of life—it should be a way of life. The future belongs to those who never stop learning,” said the former governor of Isabela.
“Technology can give you answers. Only wisdom can tell you which answers to trust. The most powerful tool you will ever have is still your ability to think for yourself.”
He says that while AI is transforming the way people study, work, and live, the more important question is whether or not society is adequately preparing young Filipinos for that future.
Speaker Dy also highlighted the House of Representatives’ efforts to strengthen the country’s education system, saying the chamber has prioritized reforms that expand access to quality education and better prepare the next generation for a rapidly changing world.
He cited measures to strengthen the Government Assistance and Subsidies to Students and Teachers in Private Education (GASTPE), the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Program, the proposed Presidential Merit Scholarship Program, teacher professionalization, and the construction of more classrooms.
“Hindi ito basta listahan ng mga panukala. Ito ay pamumuhunan sa mga susunod na henerasyon ng Pilipinong magdadala ng kaunlaran para sa ating bayan,” he said.
(This is not merely a list of proposals. It is an investment in the future generations of Filipinos who will bring progress to our nation.)
The House leader then challenged ISU graduates to lead with character as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.
“Batch 2026, the future will not be shaped by those who simply adapt to change—it will be shaped by those who have the courage to lead it. Go where your talents are needed. Lead with integrity. Serve with humility," he said.
