AMPOYOS
ILOILO CITY — Three men were charged for allegedly shooting and killing an off-duty police officer inside a karaoke bar in Pontevedra, Capiz last July 20.
The Pontevedra Municipal Police Station (MPS) filed murder charges against William Paulino Deocampo and two other suspects, Boy and Juan, before the Capiz Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Roxas City.
The suspects allegedly gunned down Police Capt. Rian Fuentes Ampoyos, commander of the 1st Capiz Provincial Mobile Force Company.
Pontevedra MPS chief Police Capt. Mark Anthony Garcia said Boy is the actual trigger man, not Deocampo as earlier reported.
The suspects are also facing charges for violating the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act for using Deocampo’s unlicensed gun during a commotion inside the karaoke bar.
Police Major Rachelle Garnica, public information officer of the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO), said suspects Boy and Juan are still at large.
Ampoyos was one of the non-uniformed police officers at the karaoke bar when the incident happened.
He and colleagues were invited by the karaoke bar owner for dinner on Sunday, July 19, to discuss how to improve the peace and order situation.
The suspects had a commotion and police pacified them but Boy suddenly grabbed Deocampo’s gun and shot Ampoyos.
