Yulo brothers launch 2028 Olympic bid with Asian Games stint

As expected, two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo and his younger brother Eldrew will lead the national artistic gymnastics team in the coming Aichi-Nagoya 20th Asian Games in Japan this September.
But beyond the much-awaited appearance of the Yulo siblings in the continental showpiece, Carlos and Eldrew take another step toward their shared dream of competing together in the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles – a prospect Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) president Cynthia Carrion believes could bring the country more medals and another piece of history.
“They really need to train hard. I mean, everybody expects [that] Carlos and Eldrew to make it for the Olympics,” said Carrion.
“Chairman Pato [Gregorio] asked me, ‘Cynthia, how many Olympic medals are you gonna give me?’ I promised him three, so I have to win three medals” she added.
Before they can chase that Olympic goal, however, the Asian Championships in Japan will serve as a crucial stepping stone as it will help the Yulo brothers be sharpened ahead of the World Championships, where Olympic qualification spots will be on the line.
The 26-year-old Carlos and 18-year-old Eldrew have already qualified in the individual events of the prestigious meet after clinching their gold and bronze medals, respectively, in the 13th Senior Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Sunyi, China last month.
As part of their preparations for the Asiad, the men’s squad, which is composed of Carlos, Eldrew, Miguel Besana, Justine Ace De Leon, and Filipino-American Zachary Nunez, is scheduled to train in Japan while the distaff side will hold its camp in the United States this coming weeks.
Carlos missed the 19th edition staged in Hangzhou nearly three years ago after almost winning a vault medal in Indonesia in 2018.
