Teacher choked to death by nephew in Bohol

CEBU CITY – A teacher was choked, struck in the head, wrapped with a packaging tape before he was stuffed in a sack and dumped in a secluded area in Candijay town, Bohol.
Police discovered this gruesome crime and tagged the victim’s nephew as a suspect.
The fatality was identified as Dexter Hinayon, a 33-year-old teacher at Bohol Island State University-Cogtong Campus and resident of Barangay Can-olin, Candijay.
The suspect, Jessie Requiz, an 18-year-old first year Marine Biology student, is in police custody.
Police Lt. Revy Dean Basalan, chief of the Candijay police, said the suspect and the victim agreed to meet on Sunday night, July 19, after the student asked to borrow money from him. The meeting was held 300 to 500 meters from the victim’s house.
Basalan said the suspect disclosed that he needed P2,000 to buy a PE uniform.
A heated argument erupted after victim was only able to give P1,000. The suspect attacked the victim with a rear naked choke before striking his head with a hard object.
The suspect then wrapped the victim’s body with a packaging tape. “He admitted wrapping the body with a packaging tape so he can carry it easily,” said Basalan.
The suspect placed the body in a sack and dumped the victim in a secluded area about 500 meters from the crime scene.
The victim’s relatives reported his disappearance to the police Monday night, July 20. His body was found by a relative on Tuesday morning, July 21.
Police said in a follow-up investigation that the suspect was the last person the victim met before he disappeared. Basalan said the suspect was not involved in any vices.
The crime shocked residents as the suspect is known to be involved in church activities in the barangay. Basalan said pieces of evidence have been gathered to prove the suspect’s involvement in the crime.
