Suspect in Bulacan school bomb threats nabbed in Nueva Ecija

SAN ILDEFONSO, Bulacan — Police arrested an 18-year-old man believed to be behind a string of online bomb threats that disrupted classes in several Bulacan schools.

The suspect was apprehended Tuesday night, July 21, in Barangay Hilera, Jaen, Nueva Ecija during a joint operation by the San Ildefonso, Talavera, and Jaen police.
Authorities seized the cellphone allegedly used to spread the threats, which will undergo forensic examination.
Investigators said the arrest followed bomb scare posts on July 20 in Malolos and July 21 in San Ildefonso.
The suspect is facing charges under Presidential Decree 1727 (Anti-Bomb Joke Law), Article 282 of the Revised Penal Code, and Section 6 of the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
On July 20, panic gripped teachers and students at the City of Malolos Integrated School-Babatnin after reports of an explosion circulated online.
The Department of Education ordered the early dismissal of classes as police secured the area, while bomb‑sniffing dogs later cleared the school of threats.
Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Jess B. Mendez lauded the swift response of operating units.
“Hindi biro ang bomb threat. Isang post lang online puwedeng magdulot ng takot, pagkaantala ng klase, at malaking deployment ng police at emergency responders (A bomb threat is no joke. Just one online post can cause fear, disrupt classes, and trigger a massive deployment of police and emergency responders),” he said.
He warned pranksters that such acts carry criminal liability.
Authorities reminded the public to avoid spreading false information and to report suspicious activity immediately.
