Step into Comme des Garçons' new home for unconventional style
The maison marks its 15th year in Manila with the opening of new stores at Greenbelt Makati

Back in 2017, Rei Kawakubo became the center of the fashion world when the Met Gala and the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute dedicated its annual exhibition to her work. It celebrated the designer's take on "in-between" dressing, exploring how her creations blur the line between garment and work of art. That same essence defines the maison, Comme des Garçons.

Founded in 1969, the brand—whose name translates from French as "like boys"—has revolutionized the way clothing is perceived. For decades, it has been regarded as an institution that continually challenges conventional ideas of beauty, tailoring, and wearability. Through deconstructed silhouettes, sculptural forms, and conceptual collections, Rei Kawakubo has influenced generations of designers and reshaped the language of contemporary fashion.
Here in Manila, Comme des Garçons has cultivated a loyal following through H&F Retail Concepts Inc. It has given Filipino fashion enthusiasts access to Rei's uncompromising vision, making the label's avant-garde designs more accessible to a local audience that has grown increasingly appreciative of conceptual fashion.
As Comme des Garçons marks its 15th year in Manila, the maison is writing a new chapter in its local retail story with the opening of its newest stores in the refreshed spaces of Greenbelt 2 in Makati City. On July 17, the brand officially welcomed guests to its new home.
The boutique's minimal interiors and clean architectural lines place the focus squarely on the collections. Inside, shoppers can browse a curated selection of the label's offerings, from the instantly recognizable Play line—marked by Filip Pagowski's iconic heart-with-eyes logo—to ready-to-wear pieces, accessories, and footwear that embody Kawakubo's avant-garde philosophy.

Also located in Greenbelt 2 is the store for its diffusion label, CDG, which focuses on logo-driven, casual streetwear essentials.
Leading the opening were H&F Retail Concepts Inc. founder Mark "Jappy" Gonzalez and Ayala Land Senior Vice President Mariana Zobel de Ayala. They were joined by Adrian Joffe, Kawakubo's husband and the president of Comme des Garçons International.
The opening of the Comme des Garçons and CDG stores marks just the beginning of H&F Retail Concepts' expansion in Greenbelt 2. Joining the two boutiques are stores dedicated to the Filipino retailer and distributor's other brands, including MM6 Maison Margiela, Maison Kitsuné, and Omotesando Koffee, which will have their official launches soon.
With its new home at Greenbelt 2, Comme des Garçons continues to evolve in the Philippines, proving once again that trends do not define true style, but by the courage to challenge convention.
