Parañaque police refute viral school shooting claim

The Parañaque City Police refuted a viral social media post claiming that shootings were being planned in several schools in the city, but assured residents that heightened security measures are now in place to protect students and school personnel.
Police Col. Nicolas Pinon said on Tuesday that the alarming Facebook post immediately prompted the Intelligence Section to conduct validation and verification.
Pinon said that the investigation yielded negative results and that no credible information or evidence was found to support the alleged threat.
He added that although the post turned out to be unfounded, they are not taking the matter lightly and have intensified security monitoring and coordination with school administrators and partner agencies to ensure the safety of campuses throughout the city.
The police stressed that the circulation of unverified posts can trigger unnecessary fear among parents, students, and the public, especially as schools continue their regular operations.
Authorities urged the public to rely only on official announcements and refrain from sharing unconfirmed information on social media.
The police also reminded the public that individuals who deliberately spread false threats or malicious information that causes public panic may face criminal charges under existing laws.
Pinon said that they remain on full alert and will continue working closely with educational institutions to ensure a safe and secure learning environment in Parañaque.
