Man nabbed after punching cop in Quezon City traffic row

Police arrested a 48‑year‑old man after he allegedly punched a traffic officer during a confrontation over a traffic jam in Barangay Baesa, Quezon City, on Monday night, July 20.
The policeman, assigned to the Traffic and Motorcycle Response Unit (TMRU), was on his way to his designated fixed visibility post along Howmart Road when he stopped to check the traffic congestion.
The suspect, identified only as alias “Jay,” allegedly confronted the officer and began shouting and hurling offensive remarks.
Despite the policeman’s efforts to calmly explain the situation, the suspect allegedly became more aggressive, pointed his finger at the officer, pushed him, and eventually punched him in the face.
A brief struggle ensued before concerned bystanders intervened and restrained the suspect until responding police officers arrived and arrested him.
The suspect, a resident of Barangay 158, Caloocan City, was also found to have a previous record for malicious mischief or damage to property.
He is now under the custody of Talipapa Police Station (PS 3) and will be referred to the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office for inquest proceedings for alleged violations of Article 148 (Direct Assault Upon a Person in Authority) and Article 155 (Alarms and Scandals) of the Revised Penal Code.
