Malabon gov't activates 'Tigil Pasada' plan during transport strike

The Malabon City government activated its “Tigil Pasada” contingency plan on Wednesday, July 22, to reduce the impact of the nationwide transport strike on commuters.

According to the city’s Public Information Office, the strike is scheduled from July 22 to 24.
The city government said personnel from the Public Safety and Traffic Management Office (PSTMO), Malabon City Police Station (MCPS), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), General Services Department (GSD), Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), and Malabon City Action Team (MCAT) met to finalize response measures and deployment plans.
The local government will deploy seven vehicles from various departments to assist stranded commuters.
PSTMO personnel will also be assigned to manage traffic and assist passengers, while the police will secure key transport routes and maintain peace and order. The BFP will also conduct continuous monitoring across the city.
The city government said local transport groups, including the Malabon Jeepney Transport Service Cooperative, tricycle operators and drivers associations, and pedicab operators and drivers associations, expressed support for the contingency measures and said they will not join the strike.
They were also reminded not to overcharge commuters.
The PSTMO identified possible areas where commuters may gather, including Barangay Hulong Duhat, Concepcion, City Hall, C4/Letre Roads, Catmon/Francis, Acacia Market, Panghulo Tatawid, and Del Monte in Potrero.
Response teams and transportation assistance will be made available in these areas, the city government said.
Mayor Jeannie Sandoval said the local government remains proactive in ensuring that essential services will continue despite the transport disruption.
“Hindi natin hahayaan na maantala ang pagpasok sa trabaho, paaralan, at iba pang mahahalagang lakad ng ating mga kababayang Malabueño (We will not allow the work, school, and other important activities of our fellow Malabueños to be disrupted),” she said.
“Nakahanda ang Pamahalaang Lungsod ng Malabon at sama-sama tayong kikilos upang matiyak ang ligtas, maayos, at tuloy-tuloy na serbisyo para sa lahat (The Malabon City government is ready, and we will work together to ensure safe, orderly, and continuous service for everyone),” Sandoval added.
