Rider faces raps over viral Marikina road rage

A 36-year-old rider faces complaints of physical injuries and malicious mischief in connection with a viral road rage in Barangay Concepcion Uno, Marikina City.

Police said the incident happened Saturday night, July 18, involving a 33-year-old motorcycle taxi rider who later filed a complaint after suffering injuries and damage to his motorcycle.

A viral video showed the suspect, in an orange shirt, confronting and punching the motorcycle taxi rider. Bystanders tried to break up the fight before the two men fell onto the road.

Marikina police chief Col. Jenny Tecson said the confrontation began when the suspect allegedly cut into the lane of the motorcycle taxi rider, who was carrying a female passenger.

The two stopped in the middle of the road, argued, and exchanged punches. The suspect fled but was later tracked down and arrested in Barangay Malanday.

Police said they have also identified his companion, who may face charges if included in the complaint.

Officials of Barangay Tumana clarified the clash did not occur in their area but in Barangay Concepcion Uno. They urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information and allow authorities to finish their investigation.

Barangay officials stressed they do not tolerate violence or illegal activity and vowed to cooperate with police.

Authorities reminded motorists to stay calm and avoid letting road disputes escalate into violence.
