Hired truck helpers nabbed in Pasig house transfer theft

What was meant to be a simple move to a new home in Pasig City turned into a theft case after two hired truck helpers allegedly stole some of the customer’s belongings.
Authorities said the incident occurred on July 19, when a female victim booked a Lalamove closed van to move her personal belongings from her former apartment in Quezon City to her new residence on Santa Teresita Street in Barangay Kapitolyo, Pasig City.
The delivery vehicle was manned by a driver and two truck helpers, identified only as “Rico” and “Maming.”
Upon arriving at the victim's new residence in Pasig at around 11 a.m., the truck helpers started unloading the belongings.
While the unloading was ongoing, the victim temporarily went inside the house as an air-conditioning technician was scheduled to inspect the air-conditioning unit.
“Prior to entering the residence, she observed that the helpers were still unloading her belongings,” police said.
When the victim returned outside, she noticed that her orange eco bag had been moved and that one of the cardboard boxes had been repositioned.
She checked the box and found apparent fingerprints, indicating it had been opened.
She immediately checked her belongings and discovered that several valuable items were already missing, consisting of two wristwatches, two necklaces, a ring, and a bracelet.
The victim confronted the truck helpers about the missing items, but both denied taking them and urged her to check the orange eco bag. The missing jewelry, however, was not found.
During the confrontation, the victim noticed one of the truck helpers wearing a ring similar to her missing one. She asked him to remove the ring for verification, but he refused.
Moments later, police said the helpers attempted to leave the area.
“Suspecting that they were trying to evade responsibility, the complainant immediately sought the assistance of the Barangay Security Force (BSF), whose members promptly responded, apprehended the suspects, and recovered the missing items,” authorities said.
The suspects are now in police custody as theft charges are being prepared against them.
