DSWD starts UPLIFT distribution in Western Visayas

ILOILO CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has started distributing P2,000 cash aid for near-poor households in Western Visayas.

An initial 2,198 beneficiaries received assistance under the United Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food, and Transport (UPLIFT) program on Monday, July 20.

Seven-hundred thirty-one were from in Janiuay, Iloilo; 503 in Buenavista, Guimaras; 254 in Iloilo City; 241 in Banga, Aklan; 205 in Dumalag, Capiz; 200 in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique, and 64 in Kalibo, Aklan.

DSWD-6 Director Joselito Estember said UPLIFT will benefit around 236,000 households in the region.

UPLIFT includes 137,170 families under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and 21,776 households under the Walang Gutom Program (WGP).

There is also 77,373 households under another batch. These are families who are classified as near-poor households, whose incomes are technically just above the poverty threshold.

UPLIFT is a priority program of the Marcos administration giving additional assistance to augment the purchasing power of low-income households which suffered from the indirect impact of the energy crisis caused by the ongoing war in the Middle East.
