Bus conductor fakes robbery after losing P17K to 'scatter' in QC

A 48‑year‑old bus conductor was arrested in Quezon City on Monday, July 20, after allegedly gambling away P17,000 in company remittances on “scatter” and faking a robbery to hide the loss.
The suspect, known only as “Arnel,” approached police officers on patrol around 4 a.m. along EDSA near Puregold Balintawak in Barangay Apolonio Samson and claimed he had been robbed by a man posing as a police officer.
Responding officers conducted an ocular inspection but found no evidence to support the alleged robbery.
Arnel was advised to inform his employer about the incident, but when a company representative arrived, he allegedly admitted that he had used the remittance for online gambling.
A subsequent company inventory confirmed the missing funds, prompting the police to arrest him.
Recovered from his possession were a bundle of bus tickets and a driver’s license, which were taken into police custody as evidence.
Arnel is set to face charges for qualified theft under Article 310 of the Revised Penal Code and unjust vexation before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
Police also found that he was arrested in January 2022 for violating Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
