Another bomb threat rocks Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY – This highly-urbanized city was rocked by another bomb threat in a school in Barangay Pahanocoy here on Tuesday, July 21.
Mayor Greg Gasataya said they maintain their position of non-tolerance for any act that threatens the safety of the students and educators.
Gasataya said the city remains in close coordination with the Bacolod City Police Office as they conduct a thorough investigation to identify the source of the false threat.
Police Major Rondyl Tapang, head of Police Station 8, said they received a threat against teachers through a message on social media sent by a fictitious name to one of the students.
It was followed by an alleged bomb threat around noon time, which was reported through the 911 hotline, prompting class suspension.
Tapang said they responded along with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine (EOD/K9) Unit to secure the campus and coordinate with school administrators.
No explosive device or hazardous material was found in an inspection and clearing operation and the campus was declared safe.
Tapang said they do not ignore these threats despite considering it as a hoax or prank because the safety of the learners and teachers are important.
He said the security threat on teachers was similar to the case in a public high school in Barangay Tangub here early this month. He added the sender apologized for the incident, but authorities failed to identify the person.
He encouraged school security to inspect students' bags and the teachers to observe the behavior of their students.
Tapang said cybercrime authorities are trying to trace the sender of these threats, who he believed could be a student.
To improve security, the city will install handheld and walk-through metal detectors in all elementary and secondary schools. Police have conducted security briefings and emergency protocol symposia for school officials, teachers, and students to ensure threat preparedness.
The city shall enforce all necessary measures to ensure the schools remain secure environments for learning. Four schools here reported security threats this month.
