The veteran guard stepped up big time for the depleted TNT team which opened the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup with a 106-103 win over Macau despite playing without key players like Jayson Castro, Kelly Williams, Calvin Oftana and Brandon Ganuelas Rosser.

Nambatac finished with 23 points to go with six assists, three rebounds, a steal and a block.

“To be honest, ‘yung last conference ko was a wakeup call; an eye-opener na rin para sa akin,” said the lefty playmaker.

In the Commissioner’s Cup, Nambatac struggled to get going, only averaging 5.5 points, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 rebounds in the 27 games. 

He was also seemingly missing in action in the Finals series against Barangay Ginebra — a performance that came as a shock considering that, just a season ago, he was hailed as the Finals MVP of the same conference.

It also didn’t help that Nambatac’s name has been thrown several times in trade rumors – particularly the one that would send him to Titan Ultra in exchange for Joshua Munzon.

“I’ve been playing in the PBA for eight year and iyon ‘yung worst performance in a conference ko so far. Sabi ko, hindi pwedeng ganun. So I need to step up and ibalik ko yung usual na laro ko,” said Nambatac.

With the chance to step up and perform, Nambatac is hoping to make the most of the opportunity.

“Good thing, good start yung nagawa ko. Sabi nga ni coach Chot (Reyes), sana magtuluy-tuloy na,” he added.
