Maja Salvador is making her long-awaited return to ABS-CBN, and she's not easing back into the spotlight.

Instead, the actress is diving headfirst into one of the most intriguing roles of her career, playing a woman whose admiration for Kathryn Bernardo's character spirals into something far more dangerous.

In "Someone, Someday," Salvador takes on the role of Abi Mercado, a seemingly devoted fan of Bernardo's Billy whose obsession eventually turns her into one of the story's biggest threats.

The teaser alone has already sparked curiosity, showing Abi secretly following Billy and hinting at just how far she's willing to go for the person she idolizes.

"Siyempre kapag fan ka, gagawin mo lahat para sa iniidolo mo," Salvador said with a smile. "Pero yung ano dun, hanggang saan mo dadalhin ang pagiging fan mo?"

It is exactly the kind of role the actress had been waiting for.

"Thankful ako siyempre dahil yun naman parati ang hinahanap natin, yung mga roles na talaga matsa-challenge ka bilang artista."

According to Salvador, Abi isn't your typical villain.

Far from it.

Behind the unsettling obsession is a woman burdened by complicated family circumstances, including caring for an abusive and ailing mother, making her both sympathetic and frustrating at the same time.

"Kaya nga gusto ko yung role kasi complex siya, multi-dimensional and I think dito, mamahalin at kaiinisan siya ng mga viewers."

She was equally careful not to reveal too much about her character's place in the story.

"Nakakatuwa kasi, very important part siya sa istorya. Sabi nga sa akin, 'pivotal' nga daw and I agree. But, of course, hindi ko puwede sabihin kung bakit at paano. Panoorin niyo na lang."

The series also marks a personal milestone for Salvador.

It is her first acting project since becoming a mother, a life-changing experience she admitted has deepened her emotional range as an actress.

"After giving birth, eto po 'yung first show na gagawin ko. So n'ung bumalik at nag-work ako, nandoon 'yung nagugulat ako sa sarili ko na may gan'ung hugot na."

Returning to work after a three-year break wasn't without adjustments, but she believes motherhood has made her a better performer.

Despite sharing several emotionally charged scenes with Bernardo, Salvador laughed off suggestions that there was any competition on set.

Instead, she described the production as one built on generosity rather than ego.

"Again, 'yung set namin is very collaborative. And my co-actors are very generous. Hindi pinapaandar kunwari 'yung ego, o mas sikat ako."

She even credited Bernardo for setting the tone.

"Si Kath ang captain ng show namin. At sobrang okay siyang leader. Talagang, 'Okay, let's do this.' Very collaborative. Very okay 'yung atmosphere namin sa set."

For Salvador, everyone was simply focused on making each scene better.

"Kaya walang sapawan. May kanya-kanya kaming mga eksena. May kanya-kanya kaming moments. At pag ibibigay naman yun sa'yo, igrab mo talaga 'yung opportunity na 'yun."

The project also officially marks Salvador's return to the Kapamilya fold after a brief stint with TV5, with the actress confirming that all of her upcoming projects will now be with ABS-CBN.

Premiering July 24 on Netflix, "Someone, Someday" also stars James Reid, Dimples Romana, Rowell Santiago, McCoy De Leon, Daniela Stranner, Rita Avila, and newcomer Migz Casimiro.
