Filipino students bag 4 awards at 67th Int'l Mathematical Olympiad in China

Filipino high school students won four awards at the prestigious 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) held in Shanghai, China.
This year’s IMO drew 666 contestants from 117 countries and territories, including the Philippines, the United States, Canada, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, France, Saudi Arabia, and India.
The Philippines brought home a silver medal, two bronze medals, and an honorable mention.
Leading the team was Jerome Austin Te of Jubilee Christian Academy, who won the country’s silver medal.
This marks Te’s fourth consecutive silver medal at the IMO. He previously won in 2025 in Australia, 2024 in the United Kingdom, and 2023 in Japan.
Bronze medals went to Alessandro Albano of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS)–Main Campus and Nathan Gabriel Neria of Ateneo de Manila Senior High School. This was Neria’s second time competing at the IMO.
Zion Skye Earl Carmelo Uy of PSHS–Main Campus earned an honorable mention.
Overall, the Philippines ranked 54th this year, an improvement from last year’s 66th place finish, when the team also won a silver medal, a bronze medal, and an honorable mention.
“Congratulations! We are proud of our contestants at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad here in Shanghai, China!” the Go for Gold: Philippine IMO Team Facebook page posted.
The country was also represented by Mateo Inigo Espocia of PSHS–Main Campus and Shaun Lawrence Poh Leung of St. Stephen’s High School.
The Philippine team was accompanied by team leader Dr. Richard Eden and deputy team leader Kerish Villegas, both from Ateneo de Manila University.
The country’s participation in the IMO is a project of the Mathematical Society of the Philippines and the Science Education Institute–Department of Science and Technology.
