55,000 Oriental Mindoro families receive rice, livelihood assistance

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – A total of 55,000 families in Oriental Mindoro benefited from the government’s rice and livelihood assistance program that is expected to reach seven million families nationwide.
Executive Secretary Ralph G. Recto reiterated President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s vow that no Filipino families will go hungry as he, together with local government officials led by Gov. Humerlito Dolor, led the distribution activity under the Bagong Pilipinas Rice Program in Naujan on July 15.
"President Bongbong Marcos considers it important that none of our countrymen go hungry," Recto said in his speech.
Recto said the initiative also includes buying palay or unhusked rice from local farmers which further supports the agriculture sector.
The ongoing national effort, supported by the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF), provides poor families with a regular allocation of 10 kilos of rice through the Bagong Pilipinas Rice Program.
Local governments handle the distribution using their population databases to ensure effective delivery to those in need.
Dolor said the program will surely benefit every town in the province as he praised the goal of the national government to bring aid and opportunities closer to every community to further strengthen food security, support for education, and the capacity of local governments to deliver faster and better services to their constituents.
He thanked Recto for visiting the province and bringing the clear message of the President that “no province, island, or barangay will be left behind in the delivery of programs and services, and that progress will continue to be felt in every corner of the country.”
"Here in Mindoro, the implementation of this program is excellent. That’s why the benefits are doubled," Recto said.
"If the implementation of this program is good, we will increase the Local Government Support Fund," Recto said as he disclosed that the government plans to distribute approximately P1.5 trillion through the National Tax Allotment (NTA) to barangays, municipalities, cities, and provinces in the coming years.
Recto expressed confidence that the NTA rate will experience double-digit growth next year, which will further strengthen Filipino families' livelihoods and ensure food security.
Other local government officials who welcomed Recto were Puerto Galera Mayor Robinhood Ylagan, Joel Teves of Naujan, and other mayors from the first and second district of the province.
