Weak habagat to bring rains over Northern, Central Luzon; thunderstorms to persist across the rest of PH

The southwest monsoon or “habagat” remains weak but continues to affect the western sections of Northern and Central Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, July 19.
PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan may experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours due to the habagat.
The Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands may have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon or evening due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA warned that occasional heavy rains may trigger flash floods or landslides, especially in areas prone to these hazards.
Aurelio said the habagat is expected to begin affecting Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao by Tuesday, July 21.
As of Sunday, PAGASA was also monitoring a cloud cluster outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
Aurelio said it has the potential to develop into a low-pressure area in the coming days.
