Laborer killed, colleague hurt in Lucena truck accident

LUCENA CITY, Quezon – A 56-year-old laborer was killed and his co-worker was seriously injured after a dump truck on a self-loading truck suddenly moved and pinned them while traversing the Quezon Eco-Tourism Road in Barangay Ibabang Talim here on Saturday night, July 18.
Police identified the fatality as John and the injured as Rene, 46.
Investigation said the victims were sitting on the headboard of the self-loading truck with license plates CBQ-0790 when they noticed that the dump truck was about to hit overhead electrical wires.
The victims alerted the driver, Christian, 32, to stop the self-loading truck.
Christian stopped the self-loading truck but locking mechanisms and chains securing the dump truck suddenly detached and the dump truck moved forward. The victims’ legs were pinned.
Rescuers extricated the victims and taken to the Quezon Medical Center here where John was declared dead and Rene under treatment.
Police are conducting follow-up investigation. Families of the victims and the truck are reportedly negotiating an amicable settlement.
