As running continues to gain popularity among Filipinos, developers are transforming their estates into communities that support active lifestyles. Beyond hosting races and fun runs, many are investing in parks, jogging paths, pedestrian-friendly streets, and open spaces that encourage people to stay active every day.
This reflects a growing focus on wellness in community planning. By integrating spaces for walking, running, and outdoor recreation into their developments, master-planned estates are making healthy habits more accessible for residents and visitors alike.

Ayala Land helped popularize car-free weekends through Car-Free Sundays along Ayala Avenue in Makati, where major roads are closed to vehicles every Sunday from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. for walking, running, cycling, and other outdoor activities. Launched in 2023 in partnership with the Makati Commercial Estate Association and the Makati local government, the initiative has become a regular weekend activity for thousands of participants. Its success has since expanded to other Ayala Land developments, including Cebu Business Park, Vermosa in Cavite through its Open Streets initiative, Azuela Cove in Davao City, and North Point in Talisay City, extending car-free, people-first spaces to more communities.

Filinvest City has become one of the South's preferred running destinations, with its open spaces and tree-lined roads serving as the backdrop for community runs throughout the year. Among the events recently held are the Elorde The Flash Run 2026, Kapamilya Run 2026, Global Running Day 2026, and the EastWest Dream Run 2026. Beyond these events, its weekly Carless Sundays program gives residents and visitors dedicated spaces to run, walk, and cycle in a pedestrian-friendly environment.

Parqal in Aseana City has positioned itself as a destination for community fitness through its walkable streets and public spaces. The mixed-use development hosts Run Aseana, a free community running program held every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in partnership with local running groups. It has also served as the venue for events such as the Laban Contra Droga Fun Run, Banana Run with Tito Mikee, and Shake Out Run, encouraging more people to stay active in the heart of Aseana City.

Through SM Supermalls, SM Prime has transformed its malls into community hubs for running and active lifestyles. Under its SM Active Hub platform, the company hosts races and fitness events throughout the year, from the 25,000-runner Galaxy Manila Marathon along EDSA to the Earth Day Run, Star Wars Run, Women's Run PH, Pride Run, and multiple legs of the Sante Barley Trilogy Run Asia. By activating its network of malls with year-round running events, SM Prime is bringing fitness closer to communities across the country.
These initiatives show how developers are going beyond building homes, offices, and commercial spaces. By providing accessible venues for running and other outdoor activities, they are making it easier for people to stay active while strengthening the role of their developments as community spaces.
