DUMAGUETE CITY – A Chinese national listed as the most wanted person in Region IV-A (Calabarzon) was arrested in this Negros Oriental capital while allegedly attempting to travel to Mindanao.
Police Capt. Stephen Jaynard Polinar, spokesperson of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOrPPO), said Saturday that the suspect, identified only by the alias “Xi,” a 34-year-old Chinese woman, was apprehended Friday evening in Barangay Looc.
The suspect, allegedly a former employee of a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator, was on her way to the Dumaguete port to board a fast ferry bound for Dapitan City in Zamboanga del Norte, Polinar said.
Authorities have yet to determine how long the woman had been staying in Dumaguete prior to her arrest. Polinar said she communicated with law enforcement officers through a translation application.
The suspect was arrested by virtue of a warrant issued for robbery under Article 294, Paragraph 5 of the Revised Penal Code, as amended.
Dumaguete City police chief Police Lt. Col. Don Richmond Conag said the Chinese national remains under the custody of the Dumaguete City Police Station, pending the return of the warrant of arrest to the issuing court in Luzon.
The operation was conducted by the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region, Dumaguete City Police Station, and NOrPPO, in coordination with the Anti-Carnapping Section-Regional Intelligence Division of the National Capital Region Police Office, Bacoor City Police Station, Regional Intelligence Division-Regional Special Operations Unit 4-A, and Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission Task Force.
