Thai agency GMMTV terminates actor Justin Angus Moir's contract over social media posts
Thai entertainment company GMMTV has terminated its management contract with actor Justin Angus Moir following backlash over past TikTok posts that resurfaced online.
On July 16, social media users on X circulated screenshots and videos from Moir's TikTok account, alleging that some of the content promoted misogyny, homophobia and violence.
Moir had joined GMMTV only a few months earlier and is currently appearing in the company's boys' love (BL) series When Oranges Fall.
In a statement released on July 17, GMMTV announced that it had ended its contract with the actor, effective immediately.
"After careful deliberation, the company has made the decision to terminate its contract with Justin Angus Moir as a talent under its management, effective immediately," the agency said.
GMMTV added that it "does not condone any behavior or content that promotes violence, sexism, discrimination, or the dissemination of material that may incite hatred in any form," describing those principles as fundamental to the company's operations.
Before the agency announced its decision, Moir issued a public apology addressing the resurfaced social media posts.
He acknowledged reposting an image of a gun, describing it as "a thoughtless and immature joke," and said he now recognizes that it was "foolish and irresponsible."
Moir also said he does not support violence and respects people of all genders and sexual orientations.
"I believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and equality," he said, adding that members of the LGBTQ+ community have been among those who have supported and guided him throughout his career.
In his statement, Moir apologized for the reposts and accepted responsibility for his actions.
"I sincerely apologize for the things I reposted in the past and for the hurt and disappointment they may have caused," he said. "Although I made those reposts when I lacked the maturity to fully understand the impact of my actions, being young is absolutely not an excuse. I take full responsibility for what I did."
He added that the criticism he received had been "a valuable lesson" and said he would strive to become "a more thoughtful, respectful, and responsible person."
