Taiwan has extended its visa-free entry program for Philippine passport holders for another year, allowing Filipinos to continue visiting the self-ruled island without a visa for stays of up to 14 days from Aug. 1, 2026, until July 31, 2027.
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines announced the extension on Friday, July 17, describing the move as a reciprocal gesture following the Philippine government's decision to continue granting visa-free entry privileges to Taiwanese passport holders.
"Starting Aug. 1, 2026, Philippine passport holders may enter Taiwan visa-free for up to 14 days, effective until July 31, 2027," TECO said in a Facebook post.
Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said the extension was approved following a government review of its existing visa and entry measures for nationals of New Southbound Policy partner countries.
The ministry said the one-year extension covers nationals of the Philippines, Thailand, and Brunei after authorities assessed the effectiveness of the trial visa-free program implemented in recent years.
The MOFA said the visa-free arrangement forms part of Taiwan's continuing efforts to strengthen exchanges with countries covered by its New Southbound Policy while promoting tourism, business travel, and people-to-people ties.
The ministry added that it would continue reviewing and refining its visa policies to strengthen bilateral relations, attract more international visitors, and pursue reciprocal visa arrangements for Taiwanese nationals traveling abroad.
The extension comes just weeks after the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) announced that Taiwan passport holders would continue enjoying visa-free entry to the Philippines for stays of up to 14 days from July 1, 2026, until June 30, 2027.
MECO earlier said the Philippine government's decision was in line with its policy of observing reciprocity in visa privileges granted to Philippine passport holders traveling to Taiwan.
The Philippines first granted visa-free entry to Taiwanese visitors in July 2025, while Taiwan has repeatedly extended its trial visa-free program for Filipinos in recent years amid growing travel demand between the two sides.
The reciprocal arrangement is expected to further boost tourism, business travel, and people-to-people exchanges, with Taiwan remaining one of the top overseas destinations for Filipino tourists and workers while the Philippines continues to attract Taiwanese visitors.
