Bat attack victim arrested over theft case in Antipolo
A man who was hospitalized after being struck with a baseball bat during a fistfight in Antipolo City was arrested when police discovered he had a pending warrant for theft.
The Antipolo Component City Police Station (CCPS) said the incident happened around 6 p.m. on July 16 in Barangay Bagong Nayon, where a confrontation with an unidentified suspect escalated into a fistfight.
The suspect allegedly grabbed a baseball bat and hit the victim on the head before fleeing.
The victim sought help from his mother, who brought him to Rizal Provincial Hospital Annex IV in Mambugan.
Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center in Marikina City.
While being treated, authorities discovered an outstanding warrant of arrest against him for theft under Article 308 of the Revised Penal Code.
The warrant, issued on Nov. 17, 2025 by Judge Jayra Arabit Cerapion Tolentino of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities Branch 2 in Antipolo, carried a recommended bail of P3,000.
Antipolo CCPS said the victim is currently confined at Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center for continued medical treatment under police custody.
