Cabinet Secretary Benhur Abalos has visited the wake of slain Move It rider Fabio Norberte Jr. to personally convey President Marcos' condolences to the victim's family and assure them of the government's support.

During the visit on Friday, July 17, Abalos extended financial assistance to the bereaved family and assured them that the government would continue assisting them as authorities pursue justice in the case.

The Cabinet Secretary said those responsible for Norberte's killing must be held accountable.

Abalos also committed to personally helping Norberte's child, who has autism, and said he would coordinate with the family to ensure the child receives continued support.

He likewise assured the family that the government would work with the appropriate agencies to provide the assistance they need throughout the legal process.

Norberte, a 46-year-old Move It rider, was fatally stabbed with an ice pick by a passenger while on duty in Barangay 20, Caloocan City, early Tuesday. The attack, which was captured on CCTV footage, was followed by the theft of the victim's motorcycle.

Police said the suspect fled using the stolen motorcycle before allegedly attempting to rob another victim of a mobile phone in Malabon City several hours later.

Residents cornered and subdued the suspect in a dead-end alley before turning him over to responding police officers. Authorities recovered the stolen motorcycle and the ice pick believed to have been used in the attack.

The killing has sparked concern among motorcycle taxi riders, with Move It condemning the attack and pledging assistance to Norberte's family while helping facilitate insurance benefits.

Abalos reiterated that the government would stand by the Norberte family and ensure that justice is served.
