Song Ha-yoon's former schoolmate referred to prosecution over defamation
Police have referred a former schoolmate of Korean actress Song Ha-yoon to the prosecution over defamation charges stemming from allegations of school violence against the actress.
The decision came after police reinvestigated the complaint when Song Ha-yoon's camp filed an objection in March to the police's original decision in February not to refer the case to the prosecution.
Song Ha-yoon's legal representative said the former schoolmate is facing charges of defamation, obstruction of business, and intimidation.
"The case in which a complaint was filed against classmate 'A,' who raised allegations of school violence, on charges of defamation, obstruction of business, and intimidation under the Information and Communications Network Act, was referred to the prosecution on June 16 following supplementary police investigations," the law firm representing the actress said.
The allegations against Song Ha-yoon surfaced in 2024 when she was accused of assaulting a fellow student during her school years.
Through the law firm, Song Ha-yoon said, "I am apologetic for unintentionally causing worry and distress to many people. I had been quietly waiting for the prosecution's final judgment regarding the ongoing investigation, but since information different from the facts was reported again, I have decided to correct at least the basic facts. I would be grateful if you could wait just a little longer until the final results are released."
Song Ha-yoon, 39, has appeared in dramas including "Fight for My Way," "Marry My Husband," and "Band of Sisters."
