ASF checkpoint in Zamboanga City.
ZAMBOANGA CITY – More than 200 hogs either died or slaughtered here as the local government ordered strict border controls and quarantine measures to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF).
ASF was monitored by the City Veterinary Office in seven barangays – San Roque, Tumaga, Culianan, Manicahan, Curuan, Tictapul, and Vitali.
Mayor Khymer Olaso said the City Veterinarian's Office is responding aggressively to the threat through heightened surveillance, strict monitoring, and quarantine operations.
Olaso ordered tighter border controls particularly in the transport of live hogs into Zamboanga City from neighboring provinces and cities.
He appealed to hog raisers to immediately report suspected ASF cases to the local government.
