A suspected "salisi" thief was arrested after allegedly stealing a security guard’s 9mm service pistol from a parked company vehicle in Quezon City on Tuesday night, July 14.
Police said the incident occurred at around 11:10 p.m. when the guard parked the company vehicle in front of the Unibond Trading Building on Sgt. Catolos St. in Barangay Immaculate Concepcion and briefly left it with the engine running and hazard lights on to deliver drug test documents and urine samples inside the building.
While inside, the guard realized he had left his black sling bag on the driver's seat containing a 9mm Rock Island service pistol, a cellphone, P1,300 in cash, and several identification cards.
A witness then alerted the victim after seeing two men fleeing with the bag, prompting the guard to chase them, but the suspects escaped.
Police reviewed CCTV footage and identified one of the suspects as alias "Reynold," 23, of Barangay San Roque, Cubao, Quezon City, who was arrested in a follow-up operation at about 12:45 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15.
Recovered from the suspect were the victim's black sling bag, an improvised firearm, and two live rounds for .45-caliber gun.
However, police said the stolen pistol, cellphone, cash, and the victim's other personal belongings were not recovered. The suspect's alleged accomplice remains at large.
Further verification also showed that the suspect has previous records involving theft, illegal drugs, physical injuries, illegal gambling, and other offenses.
The suspect is now detained and faces charges of theft and illegal possession of firearms before the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office.
