Pinoy archers present medals to PSC chief

Members of the Philippine archery team paid a courtesy call on Philippine Sports Commission chairman Patrick Gregorio on Wednesday, July 15, following their remarkable showing in the recent Singapore Youth Archery Championships at the Bukit Gombak Stadium.
Gregorio welcomed the Filipino archers who proudly displayed the medals they won in the three-day event for archers aged 18 years and below. Gregorio was joined by PSC commissioner Edward Hayco in welcoming the delegation made up of 21 archers, five coaches and five team officials.
They brought home 13 gold, 10 silver and seven bronze medals, and delivered a strong message that the Philippines has become a force to reckon with under world-class coaches Ryu Su Jeng, who steered South Korea to five gold medals in the 2016 and 2020 Olympics, and Hong Sung Chil, a gold medalist in the 1999 World Championships.
"This is the resurgence of Philippine archery,” said Gregorio, who described the performance in Singapore as a "perfect bullseye.”
“It’s time to bring back the glory days of Philippine archery. Para sa bayan ito,” said World Archery Philippines headed by Bing Reaport after the tournament that drew archers from China, Hong Kong, Chinese-Taipei, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, Laos and host Singapore.
Bagging gold medals on the final day of the competition were Mariano Matteo Medina in the U15 Recurve men’s, General Marc Bangoy in the U18 Recurve men, Leila Jell Cano in the U18 recurve women, Mateusz Vaughn Johnson in the U18 Compound men and Abigail Lim in the U21 Compound women. Chass Mhavien Colas and Zac Zayco won silvers in the U18 Recurve men and U18 Compound men, respectively.
