- Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson has commended the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) for submitting an objective medical assessment of Sen. Rodante Marcoleta to the Sandiganbayan.
Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson on Thursday, July 16 commended the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) for submitting an objective medical assessment of Sen. Rodante Marcoleta to the Sandiganbayan.
The Sandiganbayan had ordered a separate medical examination for Marcoleta at the PGH to determine if he still needed to be confined at the Philippine National Police General Hospital (PNP-GH).
Based on the PGH’s findings, no further hospitalization is required for the senator since there was no medical condition that warrants his stay at the PNP-GH, where he was brought to after reportedly experiencing chest pains.
The anti-graft court ordered Marcoleta transferred to the new Quezon City Jail in Barangay Payatas.
Lacson also noted how Marcoleta managed to walk while leaving the Sandiganbayan last Wednesday, July 15.
"It’s a MIRACLE! Naka wheelchair pumasok, brisk walk lumabas. Kudos to UP-PGH for putting professionalism and integrity above all other considerations in submitting their medical report to the Sandiganbayan," Lacson said in a post on X.

Marcoleta was arrested last July 6 over charges of plunder and graft, in connection with a P75-million "donation" he received while he was still a congressman, but did not declare in his Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE).
The senator was brought to the PNP-GH where doctors said he was experiencing mild pneumonia, among other conditions - yet reportedly received visitors including Vice President Sara Duterte and Sen. Robinhood Padilla.
Lacson earlier scored what he noted was a recurring pattern of hospitalization involving prominent personalities who are cited in contempt of the Senate, or are facing arrest for criminal cases.
Aside from Marcoleta, the former national police chief also noted that former Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan, who is also facing plunder and graft charges before the Sandiganbayan, was also confined at the PNP-GH.
Lacson also questioned who will now be responsible for Bonoan and Marcoleta’s stay at the PNP-GH when the hospital is intended mainly for PNP personnel and their dependents, some of whom have reportedly been denied admission despite being entitled to its services.
The lawmaker said he will raise this issue in the upcoming Senate’s deliberation on the proposed 2027 budgets of the PNP and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
