Rose Van Ginkel trades VMX glamour for chills in 'Rosario'
By Neil Ramos
Hottie Rose Van Ginkel is back.
After turning heads in a string of VMX's steamy films, the actress is taking a different route with her latest project, "Rosario."
No, it isn't another sensual outing.
It's a horror film, with Rose playing its supernatural antagonist.
"Yeah, mananakot ako dito," Rose told us with a smile.
What? No nudity?
"Yes, sorry, wala po, balot na balot po ako dito," she answered, laughing.
Darn.
Still, Rose couldn't be happier.
Horror, it turns out, has always been one of her favorite genres.
"Ever since bata pa po ako, hilig ko takutin sarili ko. As in, nanonood talaga ako madalas ng mga horror films."
But why?
"Hindi ko rin po alam," she replied with a laugh.
Directed by Roni S. Benaid, "Rosario" draws inspiration from a chilling Filipino superstition involving the rosary held by the dead.
"Ang sabi kasi kapag hindi pinutol yung rosariong hawak ng isang bangkay, magkakasunod-sunod ang pagkamatay sa isang household. Yun, basically, ang inspiration nito," Roni explained.
The filmmaker is no stranger to horror, having previously directed the genre films "Poon," "Mary Cherry Chua," "Marita," and "Nanay, Tatay," all of which have become hits.
According to him, audiences can expect plenty of terrifying moments in "Rosario."
"Marami kaming jump scares dito, something na na-realize ko, hilig ng mga Pinoy," he said. "Bukod doon, sinipat din namin nang maigi ang visual effects sa post (production) para very convincing talaga."
So why cast Rose as the film's supernatural antagonist?
"Nagkataon lang," he said with a laugh. "Nagkatrabaho kami dati kung saan multo naman siya, and I think very effective siya sa ganitong genre."
Aside from Rose, "Rosario" also stars Aubrey Caraan, Yumi Garcia, Lance Carr, Meg Imperial, Jairus Aquino, Bernadette Allyson, and Suzette Ranillo.
"Rosario" opens in Philippine cinemas on Aug. 5.
