Police detainee caught hours after escape

ILOILO CITY — A man was caught hours after escaping police custody in Oton, Iloilo on Wednesday afternoon, July 15.
Oton police chief Police Lt. Col. Arnel Solis said that 26-year-old suspect was caught past 2 p.m. or more than three hours after evading police at around 11 a.m.
The suspect was arrested for rape and was taken to the Rural Health Unit (RHU) for psychiatric evaluation when he asked his police escort to go to the restroom but he escaped through the window.
The Oton Municipal Police Station rearrested the suspect in a hot-pursuit operation.
Solis said surveillance cameras and residents helped them track the suspect.
The police officer who accompanied the suspect will be investigated for the escape.
