The Muntinlupa police defended the city government against accusations that it did not help in the investigation of the case of a jeepney driver who was shot and killed last month.
The victim was identified as Michael Ferrer, a jeepney driver who was killed in Barangay Poblacion, Muntinlupa, on June 7.
During a press conference at the National Police Commission (Napolcom), Mar Valbuena, chairman of transport group Manibela, accused a police master sergeant of being the mastermind behind the killing of the jeepney driver. Ferrer was allegedly killed for refusing to pay “tong.”
In a statement, the Muntinlupa police clarified that “the City Government of Muntinlupa, under the leadership of Hon. Mayor Ruffy B. Biazon, has consistently extended full support to this Police Station in the conduct of its law enforcement and investigative functions.”
The police expressed gratitude to Biazon for promptly providing the logistical and operational support required by investigators in the murder case.
They noted that the assistance was crucial during follow up operations in Camarines Sur and Occidental Mindoro, where personnel traveled to validate critical information and pursue investigative leads essential to the probe.
They said the city government’s support is a reflection of its “unwavering commitment to ensure that justice is pursued through lawful, impartial, and professional police work.”
The Muntinlupa police declined to give details of their investigation into the killing of Ferrer, citing “legal and operational limitations that prevent us from disclosing all investigative details, particularly through social media and other public platforms.”
They said premature disclosure of information may compromise the investigation.
The police assured Ferrer’s family that the case has the “highest level of attention from the Philippine National Police and the Local Government Unit of Muntinlupa City.”
The Muntinlupa police officer in question had once received the AGC Honest Cop award.
