The Senate Impeachment Court has granted the request of the House prosecution panel to subpoena three officials of Landbank when it resumes the trial next week, Monday, July 20, 2026.
Impeachment Court Presiding Officer and Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero announced this before closing the sixth day of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
This, after Rep. Gerville Luistro, a member of the House prosecution panel, identified their next set of witnesses next week, namely Marivic Pareja, Legislative Archives and Museum Management Service Director Marivic Pareja, two Landbank employees namely Violeta Constantino, Landbank branch manager Shaw Boulevard branch, and Nenita Camposano, branch manager at the Department of Education (DepEd) branch as well as Lynette Ortiz, President and CEO of Landbank.
The said witnesses are said to testify on Article 1 of the Articles of Impeachment. Under Article 1, Duterte is accused of misusing P612.5 million in confidential funds from the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and Department of Education (DepEd).
Prior to this, Luistro informed the impeachment court that aside from Zuleika Lopez, Duterte’s chief of staff, they will also withdraw some of their witnesses supposedly to take the witness stand under the Article IV of the Articles of Impeachment. Article IV pertains to the alleged assassination threats of the Vice President against President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., his wife, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Luistro identified them as an official of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Firearms and Explosives Office, media personalities Mikhail Flores and Bonz Magsambol, Sheriff Abe Andes, family member of a victim of threats and an unnamed psychiatrist.
Also on Monday, Escudero said the Impeachment Court will resolve the oral arguments of the House of prosecution panel and the defense team which senator-judges discussed during a caucus.
“In caucus, the senator-judges agreed to be given time to study the matter more, given that not everyone has actually completed reading the memoranda given by the parties and given that they want more time to look into the complicated issues involved in the issuance of subpoena,” Escudero said.
“The senator-judges agreed in caucus to decide on the matter on Monday, and that on Monday, senator-judges who wish to ask the parties will be afforded the time to ask these questions again on both sides,” he further said.
Moreover, the impeachment court will also hear the testimony of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag on Tuesday, July 21. Luistro said the prosecution committed to present Matibag next week.
Also, before closing Day 6 of the trial hearing, Escudero confirmed that the Vice President’s legal team will present its evidence after the House panel have finished the presentation of evidence-in-chief of all of the Articles of the Impeachment.
